If you have attended Sunday classes or vacation bible schools during your child hood, you would have heard stories of the heroes in the Bible. I used to be fascinated with the story of Daniel in the lion’s den and the story of David and Goliath. I used to think that we need to live a life like Daniel, David and so on. Only after I started reading the bible, I came to know that the bible is not a book of heroes but a book of only one Hero, who is Jesus Christ. Someone summarized Bible like this, “A book full of story of sinners and their only savior”. In simple words, Bible is:
The story of God redeeming sinners for himself and for his glory.
The story of God who is sovereign over everything controls and executes his plan for his glory.
The story of a righteous God crushing his son Jesus Christ for the sins of his chosen.
The more I read the story, I see that human is utterly wicked and completely depraved in mind, heart and everything and acts in a way completely displeasing to God and completely incapable to seek God on his own. We could see the story of so many sinful people in the Bible, being used by God to fulfill his plan and purposes. We could see that the God of the Bible is a God who is sovereign over history and he executes his plans perfectly.
He worked out his plan of salvation by sending his son Jesus Christ in to this world, to be born as a human, to be born under the law, to fulfill every righteous requirements of the law by his life in obedience, to be betrayed, to suffer, to die, to be buried and to be raised by the power of the Holy Spirit. This was the plan of God that anyone believes in Jesus Christ as the son of God, sent from God for the salvation of mankind, will be saved. Do you know this God? Do you know Jesus Christ? If not, do you consider knowing him now?
Having known this God and being in an eternal relationship with him, a Christian should live a life glorifying him in everything. This might sound like an uphill task at times for many of us. Do you think you are too weak to walk in his ways? It is only by the grace of God that we can walk in his ways and our lives can be a pleasing offering to him. The call to walk in holiness is not an easy task for any human by his own strength. If you think you can, then you are fooling yourself. Being saved by his grace, it is foolish to think that you can stand only by your strength. Again I repeat, “It is only by the grace of God and his strength, his people are enabled to walk in his ways, to please him and to glorify him.”
Analyze your life; Realize your weakness; Seek God for strength; Endure the tough times; Live for his Glory!
It may be simple to say to others to endure the tough times, but when you are in the situation, you know the gravity. Are you bogged down by the toughness you go through? Are you overwhelmed by the struggles of your life? Are you looking forward to the light at the end of the tunnel? Are you exhausted, saying How long? O Lord!
Cheer up! You will not be stuck here forever. The night is far gone and the day is near. The promise of our Lord Jesus Christ is that “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4) So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
Let us seek God for his grace and strength to stand firm. Let us look up to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith who submitted to the will of God in obedience even to the point of his death. Let us run the race set before us with endurance. Let us live our lives with hope. May God bless us in this journey!
