1 Peter 1:1-2
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who are the elect exiles of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood.
Romans 8: 29-30
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first born among many brothers. And those whom the predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Peter is writing the letter to those who are the elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father. It is a glorious truth for us as believers that God’s plan of salvation of sinners was totally His work. He foreknew us and predestined us to be conformed to the image of his son. He chose us, we did not choose him. And he chose us not based on what we did or did not do. Ephesians 1:3-6 states that God chose us in Christ before the foundations of the world to be holy and blameless before him. And not only did he choose us from our default state of death, but he also to this end predestined us to be conformed to the image of Jesus. This means that he enabled and caused us to believe and put our faith in Jesus and there by become co-heirs with him. God did this by the work of the Spirit in our lives. It is wonderful to know that right from the beginning God had been working his plan of saving the church, the elect. He was and is still at work in the lives of the called. We need to be eternally indebted to him for choosing us out of darkness and making the way for us and causing us to come to the light. He gave us hope when we had no hope and we were on his mind before the foundations of the world. All praise and glory be to GOD!
