I was just pondering today about how privileged we are to have a gracious God who has loved an undeserving people like us. We did not have any hope. Pondering further I began thinking of how would it be to live a life without hope, without any thought of destiny. I suddenly got a feeling of pointlessness thinking – why live, why work, why do good, why sing, why read the Bible, why breathe, why love, why pray, why laugh etc. If there is no hope that all that we do is pointless.
Just think of it, if you knew some how, that you were not one of the chosen by the LORD and you were destined to hell. What would you find doing worthwhile here on earth. Nothing that you can do can save u and God who is the only scope to save u does not. What would u be thinking? What would give u joy? In what would u find meaning? It is like u playing a game where u have been declared a loser . What would motivate u to play. Why play further. Your best of best planning, strategy, talent, expertise, positive thinking, efforts only result in failure. It is a sorry feeling. Bad feeling. Whatever we do can’t change the outcome no matter how well we do it.
The bible says that we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We are deserving of death. The bible also says that God did not leave us to die but he so loved the world that he gave his one and only son to die for us that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life with God. Jesus died and rose up for us so that we may have life and life to the fullest. The bible says that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. Not by works that any man can boast. He chose is in Christ to be predestined. He just showed us mercy.
I recently heard a true story of a man who was traveling on a bus with his newly wedded wife. They were on the last row seats. The bus had 30 people on board. The bus met with an unfortunate accident at high speed and toppled several times alone the slope of a hill before coming to a halt. The toppling caused the diesel tank to give way and the bus caught fire. The window behind the man and his wife had broken off. The man could get out he tried to pull his wife out but her leg was stuck and she burned and died right before him This man was the only survivor out all the 30 passengers. The driver and conductor also survived. How was this man different from the other passengers that e survived? What was in him or done by him to have him saved and others dead. Nothing!. It was just God’s sovereign plan that he lives others die. He was no different from the others except for the fact that he was chosen to live another day.
We are eternally indebted to our gracious LORD for choosing us when we were destined to death and torment and a life devoid of a relationship with the giver and author of life. It is just grace and there is nothing that we can do but to offer up ourselves in worship and in awe to this GOD. We can never ever stand before the LORD and say well you chose me because I was good. It is just grace. We humble ourselves before the LORD and give him glory. We live to glorify him. We live worthy of Him who has called us. Our lives revolve around Him.
